My laptop won't let me sign into certain sites? Help!?
I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop. I used it for your normal computer use; getting on the internet, checking emails, ect. I can get on the internet but it won't let me log into email accounts. I can't log into or create accounts on almost every website. The page that says something about this ;webpage cannot be displayed' pops up everytime I try to log in to something. I can't download files nor music from iTunes or Limewire. I don't have the reboot discs nor does it have the option to reboot on start up. I changed the internet options and it didn't work either. I went and bought a new laptop and now I use it for stuff that doesn't require the internet because it still works fine otherwise. It runs on XP and I'm using a AT&T aircard to get on the internet on both laptops. I took the laptop and hooked up to DSL and it wouldn't connect. I'd like to change it to Linux when I fix it and use it for college and leave my new laptop home, so if you have suggestions on what to do.. THANKS!
Check your Firewall settings. The firewall might have not been properly configured that it is blocking all your Internet connections.
For WIndows XP, especially Service Pack 2, you can changed the Firewall settings at Start-->Control Panel-->Windows Firewall. In the General tab, be sure that the Firewall is ON, then select the Exceptions tab, and verify if your browser application such as Firefox is not on the list, you could add it so that it can connect to the Internet. You could also add other applications or ports in the Exceptions list, by clicking the appropriate buttons in the Exception tab.
Check also the Advanced tab, and you could also add individual exceptions there.
