The most expensive thing in a computer is usually the video card, your video card is ancient. The second most expensive thing is the motherboard, your motherboard too, is ancient. It's got one processor, and what exactly do you expect to do with an 80 gig hard drive? Some games now are 50gbs alone.
Motherboard Issues and Optimal Performance on Your Computer
At the most basic level, a computer has the following basic components: Monitor, System Unit, and Peripherals (keyboard, mouse, etc.). The system unit typically contains the following: Motherboard, Harddisk, Memory, and Power Supply. Some may have extra gadgets inside.
Everything that the computer does is attributed to its motherboard. It has the processor, which acts as its brain. As the name implies, it is in charge of processing sets of instructions that a computer sends and receives. The memory is attached to the motherboard. It acts as temporary storage for all the instructions to be processed by the processor. The motherboard also contains expansion slots which allow a computer to extend its functionality. Sound cards and video cards are common examples of devices that are plugged into the expansion slots. The power supply is also attached to a motherboard. It provides the necessary electrical supply to the entire system. A motherboard can contain one or more harddisks. Harddisks are permanent storage for a user's files.
Among the big names in manufacturing motherboards are Asus, ASRock, MSI, Intel, and IBM. Regardless of the names, motherboards are usually shipped with a CD/DVD that contains drivers for the following: BIOS, Chipset, Audio, Video, Networking (Ethernet and Wireless), Modem, Mouse, and Keyboard. Others extend the drivers to include Bluetooth, Power Management, Card Reader, and Operating System Supplements. Installing the wrong driver for any of the abovementioned will cause unexpected issues with your computer. For example, if you install a wrong BIOS driver, then it would be a worst-case scenario for you. The least of the problems that you might encounter is having no signal from audio or video devices regardless of the brand of these devices. The worst is that you would have to flash the BIOS chip or order another one from the manufacturer which will be very impractical because you cannot solder the chip yourself unless you are an expert on that field. Either way, your computer will not function properly and will not be usable. Other issues with wrong motherboard driver installation would be your computer will not boot and will always restart. If you're lucky, you will find the manufacturer's CD to have a backup and restore utility for your motherboard. Other manufacturers bundle this utility as part of the motherboard's firmware. Some issues might include poor performance, and slow computing speed. Sometimes, these issues can be solved by just updating your motherboard drivers so that they will be compatible with what you have bought. Always try to see if there is a driver updater bundled with your motherboard so that you can download driver updates from their support website.
