What is the best way to backup a 1 TB hard drive?
I'm finishing my new PC build, including Windows 7 Professional and a 1 TB internal hard drive. I would like to be able to backup this drive somehow, what would be the best way to do so? Ideally, I'd like to be able to burn the backup to a CD or DVD. Best answer will include options plus software to get the job done (freeware is best).
With that much data on hand, I wouldn't recommend backing it up to CDs or DVDs.... you'll be wasting a TON of money on discs. My personal recommended options:
1. Get another 1TB internal drive, and link the two drives together in a RAID-1 configuration. This will make an exact mirror-image of all your data on each drive, instantaneously, with no software required. The drawback to this method is that this will only protect you against a drive failure - if your computer gets stolen or if there is a malware infection then you're still screwed.
The other option is to pick up an external HDD. Most of them nowadays come with free backup software preloaded, although personally I usually don't like their tastes and replace it with my own.
Third option is to buy some file hosting and have your machine back up into the cloud. This is the most full-proof method, and the monthly bill would be WAY less than what you'd be paying in DVDs, but there is a security and availability risk you take.
As for software, I would recommend SyncBack, which you can find for free at www.download.com. No matter what backup medium you choose you can program syncback to work with it, whether it be CDs or external HDD or Internet-based. The interface is very clunky and confusing but also powerful once you get the hang of it.
For my backups, I use a two-tier system, both of which are driven by SyncBack: my main back up is an internal HDD that is used solely for that purpose. Then my less-sensitive-but-still-like-to-keep data gets backed up again to the Internet. This ensures I have three copies of most of my data at all times, all in different places.
Hope this helps. good luck.
The Pros And Cons Of Using A Tape Backup For Data Recovery
The Pros and Cons of Using a Tape Backup For Data Recovery
No matter what kind of hard drive you have, a backup system is imperative for data integrity and security.Visit here http://recovermyfilessoftware.blogspot.com
Tape backups are one of the first types of backup systems that have been around for mostly business use. Tape backups were a way for businesses to backup large amounts of data and send it to an offsite location to ensure the safety of the data. The pro of this method is that it is an easy way to backup data and it takes little effort. Tape backups are not very feasible for personal use, but for businesses it has long been a reliable way to backup data for a history of months or even years.
In general, tape backup drives are the best solution for businesses that have a large amount of data with a need to archive it offsite. Tape backup drives are priced expensively for businesses with most solutions priced at four or five figures for large corporations. These solutions are also in need of an information technology installation expert to integrate the backup solution with current network topology and software configurations.
Tape backup is also an easy solution for those businesses that need a way to automate their backup and data recovery solutions. Tape backup is by far the easiest and most available solution for large businesses looking to archive large amounts of data.
Tape Backup Cons:
The cons to tape backups are mostly their clunky methods to store data. Tape backups can store a wide range of large data archives, but the method is antiquated and often undesirable for those businesses that need their data recovered and restored quickly after a severe hard drive damage or data loss. Tape backups are slow in that the archives must be read sequentially, much like fast forwarding music in the tape drive of a car.
The use of DVD and CD ROM drives have taken over a lot of the tape drive backup methods used years ago. The use of tape drives still have a use since they can overcome a lot of the data limitations that inhibit the use of even high capacity drives like writable DVD drives. While tape backup still has a place in the corporate world, the use of simpler drives like DVD and CD ROMs are perfect for personal use. Regardless of the method, it is imperative that data recovery methods are used to ensure the safety of your data.Visit here http://recovermyfilessoftware.blogspot.com
