Can 2x512MB 400MHz DDR and 2x1GB 400MHz DDR run Dual channel?
My motherboard has 4 slot and now i now have 2*512MB 400MHz DDR from kingston and wonder if i add another 2GB of 2*1GB 400MHz DDR also from kingston will it still be able to run dual channel and will the speed drop to match with the 512Ram? and how do i noe weather my com is still running on dual channel my bios does nt show tt i am running dual channel anot...
i tried go to www.crucial.com already but it show tt i using 2*512 ram and does not show tt i running on dual channel anot
are there any way to see if my computer is running on a dual channel other than seeing the bios ?
Certain Intel chipsets support different capacity chips in what they call Flex Mode: the capacity that can be matched is run in dual-channel, while the remainder runs in single-channel.
e.g. The two 512MB sticks will run in dual chan with each other and the two 1GB sticks will run in dual chan with each other.
Only sticks of the same size e.g. 512MB will run in dual chan with eachother. Also the sticks would have to be in the correct DIMM slots e.g. 1 x 512 = Slot 0 1x 512 = Slot 3 and 1 x 1GB = Slot 2 1 x 1GB = Slot 4
So doing what you suggest might work fine depending on your motherboards chipset. But the dual chan feature of your motherboard would work better if all the RAM was of equal size.
