Dell Desktop?
Thinking of purchasing a new Dell Desktop apprx £700 anyone advise or information ie problems etc what to look out for?

when buying a new p.c first of all look at the warranty,theres two types of warranty,onsite and return to base,some manufacturers give 2 years onsite which means the engineer will come to your home when needed
however you sometimes get minimal warrantys like 1 year return to base,this means you have the terible task of packing the p,c ,and then returning it back to the manufacturer,and this should be avoided
as for hardware,dual and quad core are the way forward,and as for memory dont settle for less than 1gb,go for 2gb if possible
hard drive storage should be at least 250gb,and a dvdrw drive is essential for burning all types of media
although intergrated and onboard graphics and audio have come a long way from the old 8mb set ups you really should go for a dedicated graphics card,however even if you dont get a dedicated card you can allways buy a 7600gt for around £60 and add it later,and a sounblaster audigy se soundcard can be bought for just £14
one tip though john,i have had some very negative reports about dell p.c,s,have you checked out "mesh computers" at http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODCATEGORYVIEWPAGE&USG=APPLICATION&ENT=APPLICATION&KEY=210544
and for your budget you can get the mesh Elite Q4 FX ,this has soem amazing specifications,check them out...

the specs that stand out to me are the Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Q6600 Quad Core Processor(2.4GHz,8MB Cache,1066MHz) and the 4GB DDR2 667MHz Memory -( 4x 1GB ) ,these are seriously good specs for any p.c and the 256MB nVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS - DVI, HDTV, TV-Out is a capable graphics card and with the inclusion of the PCI-Express Mainboard - SLI nForce 650i SLI(C55) - Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad-Core - ATX this means you can add a second 8400gs to enable sli graphics
the warranty is just a 1 year onsite allthough this can be upgraded
