can i buy extra Ghz for my laptop? or will i have to buy a completely new laptop?

i got my whole thing restored to its factory setting about 3 weeks ago, and i want to get the sims 3 but i only have 1.73 Ghz, will i be able to add more to the laptop? how much would it cost as well? if i added enough Ghz to make it 2 Ghz

Ghz refers to the cpu speed.

for laptops the answer is, if only just, yes. it is possible but extremely difficult (and hence expensive) to do.
Most computer shops wont do it as it requires it is a long and tedious process with a high chance of breaking the laptop

Some manufacturers MAY upgrade it if you ask them (not very likely though).

Basically put it would be far easier and likely cheaper to buy an new laptop. why cheaper. well if your laptop has a out of date cpu then it means that almost every other component of your machine is out of date and a full laptop upgrade is simply not feasible.

The second problem that i can see is that you want to upgrade your processor from a 1.73 Ghz to a 2 Ghz processor. I dont have the sims 3 but i am going to guess that on the box it says the minimum requirements are a '2Ghz' processor.
Those are the recommended minimum requirements to RUN the game. That is far from the same as being able to PLAY the game. By that i mean that at the minimum recommended requirements the game will run with enough frames per second to not be completely jarring but the game will look much worst graphics wise compared to the box and the load time will be unbearable.

Simply put, you should get a new laptop. the only exception is if you have a Dual Core processor. If you do then ignore everything i just said as you laptop will probably run it. (press Ctrl+Alt+Del [if in vista select the task manager button, if in xp ignore that], in the task manager select the 'performance' tab. if there are two cpu meters then it means that you have a dual core processor (or a single ht cpu. wich may also run it))
