How can I get my Acer Aspire 1640 notebook get connected to my Wireless-G 2/4 GHZ 54 Mbps Broadband Router?
I am able to get my neighbor's unsecured wireless connection. However, I can't get my own wireless router.
You'll need 2 things -
1. You need to know the wireless settings on the router - the SSID or wireless network name it uses, and if a wireless security has been set up, you need to know the network key. (By default most routers use its name as SSID and most router's wireless security settings are disabled)
2. You need to make sure that if your notebook has a built-in wireless adapter, it is currently enabled, if it doesn't have one, you need to go get one
Once you have what's needed, go to your wireless utility. XP Uses WZC (wireless zero configuration), You need to scan, or go to site survey or view available wireless network. Select the name of your SSID or wireless network name - if wireless security on the router has been enabled, it will ask for the network key. Type in your network key (WEP uses either a 10 digit hexadecimal key for 64bit, or a 26 digit one for 128bit). If WPA was chosen on the router, type in the password. XP will ask you to confirm it, just re-type the key.
You should be able to connect and get online.
If you can't, contact your router's helpdesk and they should be able to help.
