It isn't high potential itself that causes current to flow, but potential difference. The electrical resistance between the bird (and the wire on which it roosts) and ground or a nearby wire is very high, so hardly any current will flow through the bird despite the high potential difference. If the bird happened to brush against two wires at different potential at the same time, that would be a different story, but that isn't likely to happen.
Occasionally a bird flies between two wires. This increases the electrical stress on the air between the bird's wingtips and the wires. If this extra electrical stress is enough for the air between the wires to ionize and conduct electrical current, the bird will be electrocuted before the corpse hits the ground. The spacing between the wires is enough that this doesn't often happen either.
