How do I transfer large files between two computers with an ethernet cable and without a home network?
Hi.
I wish to transfer files between my laptop and my home desktop with the following conditions:
I have an ethernet cable (that is not "crossover")
My laptop can't be switched out of a "domain" to a "workgroup".
I have a WiFi router, but I don't think transferring over that would be suitable for over 40gb of transfer.
I managed to get the two computers to "connect" using my ethernet cable, by changing the IP addresses, under TCP/IP settings from Network Connections. However, I couldn't seem to do anything from this point on. I couldn't see the other computer's shared files or anything from this computer, even though the LAN said the connection was connected. What am I doing wrong?
How can I easily move my files between these two computers, using my only my ethernet cable? (I don't have an external hard drive, and DVD burning and WiFi are not suitable)

you have to do it with a crossover cable or buy a cheap switch (netgear has some for around $40.00) and put them both on the same workgroup.
