do I need to get a wireless card to get a wireless connection for an IBM Thinkpad T23?
A friend gave me an IBM ThinkPad T23 and I know nothing about it. I can't get a wireless connection so do I need a wireless card?
The "built-in" part in the T23 was only the antenna. It was one of the first IBM laptops to have WiFi, so this implementation is a bit strange. It was designed to offer users the "option" to install an internal miniPCI WiFi card.
All of this is to say that your laptop may not have a complete built-in WiFi setup. If the option card was installed, you should be able to see your access point or router using a WiFi utility, or the one in Windows XP or later (if it will run anything later).
However, if the card was not installed, the T23 has USB ports and it also accepts standard PCMCIA cards. So, you can just add an adapter.
I'm not sure if the USB ports are 1.0, 1.1 or 2.0. The 1.0 and 1.1 are a bit slow at 12Mbps (fast enough for Internet access, I suppose). Wireless-G is 54Mbps and N can go up to 300Mbps, so you'll probably be better off with a PCMCIA adapter.

Useful Hints On How To Fully Use The Ibm Thinkpad T41 Ac Adapter
Your laptop goes dead and you don't understand why because its IBM ThinkPad T41 AC Adapter is plugged in. The very first thing you should look for is status LEDs. An ibm AC Adapter can look perfectly good but be broken inside, normally as result of letting it dangle off the back of the laptop ac adapter when you work on your lap. The length of cable running from the ac adapter to the laptop is shielded coaxial cable, with the inner conductor attached to the inner part of the barrel connector and the outer part serving as ground. The actual laptop ac adapter is often detachable from the laptop power supply and is unlikely to fail as long as it's seated.
