What's a good name for a river?
I'm doing a little writing to pass the time and I need a name for the river that runs through my fictional town of Shady Vale. It's a small victorian/steam-punk town nestled along a steep valley wall and illuminated at night by bio-luminescent fungi. I should probably mention that this is on an alien planet. The river itself is artificially created to look natural, but runs through the town and into a larger river that completely encircles the town, which is both motivated to flow and kept pure by Water Control Stations. A name that alludes somewhat to some of these features or merely contributes the general atmosphere I'm trying to create would be great. So far all I've come up with is "Onyxstone River", or maybe "The River Dawn" or something?
Actually, come to think of it, a name for the bio-luminescent fungi would also be appreciated. Anyone who knows a bit of greek or latin out there?
When you say 'runs through the town and into a larger river that completely encircles the town' sounds kind of like a Greek letter theta, a circle with a line inside. So maybe something like, 'The BlackTheta River' Shortened to 'we need to cross the BlackTheta'.
As for the glowing fungi, how about 'glowstools' like toadstools
