YES the are both dual cores. BUT Core2 Duo is new technology that processes more instructions per clock cycle at lower wattage and moderate Ghz.
In benchmarks below, even the 3.73Ghz Pentium D965 (130watts) bites the dust and can't catch up with a 2.4Ghz E6600 (65 watts!)

Common Features of Today’s Laptop Computer
Many components play a key role in how a computer performs, including the processor, memory, operating system, hard drive, and monitor. Laptop computers have additional features and considerations that are important.
