Windows xp...will it slow down my laptop down!?
I have got a ibm thinkpad T21 and wanted to know if instaling xp home would realy slow my computer down.
My ram is 128mb.
Is that enough!, would running the old skin make my pc speed up!

Your laptop was introduced about 2001. This is ancient by laptop standards.
A 20 GB hard drive is very small by todays standards.
Pentium III 800 MHz is slow for XP
128 MB RAM is not enough for XP
It will not support a DVD burner, DVD burners need at least a 1 GHz processor; 1.25 GHz and up is best.
XP will make the computer slower. There are steps you can take to make it run better but you must be aware that buying Windows XP, more RAM, and possibly a larger hard drive may run $200-$300 and on a laptop 6 years old is not a good investment.
If you want to install XP
1) Update your ram to the maximum (512 MB).
2) Use the windows firewall it is very light on resources.
3) Do not use Norton, NOD 32 is much lighter on system resources.
4) Limit you startup programs to only those needed.
Disable programs that can be disabled to improve computer performance using msconfig.
First: Uninstall any programs listed in "step 1"

Run PCPitstop "full tests" and "running programs". In the results it will designate programs that can be disabled to improve computer performance. Run MSconfig and uncheck any program "that can be disabled to improve computer performance"

5) Consider updating your hard drive to a larger size. I am unsure as to the maximum size you laptop will support.
You can get an 80GB for the thinkpad T21 on eBay for $50 or and an 80 GB ATA-6 laptop drive at newegg,com for $55
