Use SSD for Readyboost?
I acquired a first gen SSD drive. It's 16 GB, it SLC based so it doesn't have the terrible studder problems the first gen MLC drives do. It supposed to do 130 MB/s read and 90 MB/s write. I tried it as my Windows drive, but it didn't seem any faster, so I went back to using just my hard drive.
I only have 2 GB of RAM, can I use the drive for Readyboost? Do you think it with Readyboost will speed up my computer?
You can surely try, its easy to do and remove should it not really boost perfromance.
However I have not really seen an advantage to ready boost unless the machine is really old and can barely run the vista/7 operating system anyway. It can in fact slow down performance of a high performance machine.
At 16GB, you could surely try to install windows 7 and direct all other data (programs, docs...) to a seperate hard drive. I have sucessfully installed windows 7 on a 30GB for a laptop, and it uses less than half the drive.
My main machine runs a 120GB Vertex OCZ, pretty awesome.
However for readyboost, again you will most likely not see a performance increase, 2GB is plenty for a operating system (of standard use).

Intel partner for the development of flash memory chips faster than existing Micron this week announced the forthcoming introduction of new disk-type SSD (Solid State Drive) with a theoretical speed reading of 250 Mb / s, for a writing speed up to 100 Mb / s. These discs adopt a SATA interface to 3 Gbps, and offer a power consumption estimated at 2.5 W when they are active, against 0.3 W when they are at rest. They also offer a MTBF (mean time between failure) of over two million hours.
These records will be broken into two lines: P200, for business and the world of servers using chips such SLC (Single-Level Cell) and the C200, addressed to the general public and adopting for their share of bullets MLC (Multi-Level Cell), cheaper, but also less efficient. Micron said to propose these discs in capacities ranging from 16 to 128 GB for 1.8-inch models, the capacity could go up to 256 GB for 2.5-inch discs.
