How can I stop my internal ip addresses from randomly changing?
I have two computers on a LAN. XP Pro. is the OS on both computers.
PC 1 was originaly assigned IP# xxx.xxx.x.100
PC 2 was originaly assigned IP# xxx.xxx.x.101
Every day these computers randomly swap addresses.
eg:
PC 1 will become IP# xxx.xxx.x.101
PC 2 will become IP# xxx.xxx.x.100
They'll do this if I reboot and sometimes they do it without rebooting.
How do I stop this from happening? Each time it happens I have to go into the NAT configuration for my router and correct the IP address assigned to the port numbers for everything installed on both computers. This is not practical, if fact it's outright annoying.
heh, your router is giving out dynamic addresses.
A very simple fix would be always to start one computer before the other, or, a more permanent solution would be to assign your computer a fixed address. You could also have your router assign a fixed address to a computer based on the MAC address of that computer. Both of the latter solutions will require a bit of manual reading if you're unfamiliar with them.
