External Hard Drive Broken?!?

OK So I have had an external hard drive for about 3 months now... (it is a memorex ultra traveldrive 2.0) I think it is 120gb.
ALL my music is on it (60gb) plus i have about £1000 worth of software on it. I was using it as a portable device on my Xbox 360 and as I was choosing a song my xbox crashed and now my xbox OR my laptop wont recognise it... if i shake it even a little I can hear it rattle... how can I get my data back for free? I dont mind taking it apart as long as someone can give me an even Idea how to do it!

Please help... 10 points promised for first good answer

It cannot be done for free. You can try DriveSavers, but you will find that it is very, very expensive. You cannot take it apart. If the drive is disassembled, it has to be done in a clean room, that is a room with 0% dust. The people who work in clean rooms are in astronaut looking suits and there is a sophisticated ventilation system to ensure no dust. Your hard drive has an incredibly small error margin for fault tolerance. Dig: you have a head that is darting around above several platters that are spinning at either 5800rpm or 7200rpm. The head must be able to skip about the platter while the drive is moving at a distance of about the width of a human hair. There is no way you can go in there with a screwdriver to fix the broken part.
